Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster or from members of The Sound, on sale May 1.  They are $20 and groups of 20 or more will receive a 10% discount (only from The Sound).  The program will include music from our beginning, our middle, our current, and a new thing or two.  There will be a few special guests and a community choir.

The Community is invited to participate in this exciting event by joining the Community Choir. The Community Choir will participate in an 8-hour workshop (two evenings and one Saturday) "The Power of Song" with our guest conductor,Ysaye M. Barnwell. After which, the Community Choir will sing at our 20th anniversary gala. This rare opportunity is not to be missed. Space is limited and is on a first come first served basis. New Horizons Ministries will be the recipient of a part of the proceeds from the concert.  New Horizons Ministries is a multi-cultural organization whose mission is to be in relationship with homeless and street-involved young people, serving and loving in the way of Jesus, equipping them to leave street life.  It is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian ministry that was formed in 1978 in response to the growing problems of youth involved in street activity in downtown Seattle.  They have served many thousands of youth, each with their own face, name, and story.

Our very special anniversary guest whom many of you have seen and heard at tenth and fifteenth anniversaries –

YSAYE M. BARNWELL

A member of the African American female a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock, Ysaye M. Barnwell, Ph.D. MSPH, is a composer, arranger, author and actress. She is a vocalist with a range of over three octaves and appears on more than twenty-five recordings with Sweet Honey as well as other artists. Trained as a violinist for 15 years beginning at the age of 2 1/2, she holds degrees in speech pathology (BS, MSEd), cranio-facial studies (Ph.D.) and public health (MSPH). She was a professor at Howard University College of Dentistry for over a decade, and over the following 8 years developed training programs in Child Protection at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center, and administered community-based health programs at Gallaudet University, all in Washington DC. For twenty years, Barnwell has led the workshop Building a Vocal Community - Singing In the African American Tradition, which utilizes an African world view and African American history, values, cultural and vocal traditions to work with and build community among singers and non-singers alike. Her pedagogy is highly respected among musicians, educators, health workers, activists, organizers, and members of the corporate and non-profit sectors.
